Not Barnes & Noble's fault - Mine!! #NookBN

Julia Coblentz and Sarah Dickman

These two ladies were Barnes & Noble representatives that put on the presentation at the RWA Convention in San Antonio last week.

They spoke well and eloquently about their company and made me realise that when authors fail to benefit from their help, it’s mainly because we haven’t reached out.

They do have a marketing plan in place and by e-mailing to we can take advantage of what they offer.

This was fabulous news to me because as you know by my last blog post, I was rather frustrated with our numbers on B&N for our box collection Ten Brides for Ten Heroes. Turns out, it was my own fault for not researching ways to connect.

Merchandising opportunities:

-         Guest posts – pitches welcome

-         Nook Firsts

-         Category promotions

-         Seasonal sales

There’s also a community we can access called Nook Press Blog – the Indie Nook Blog is separate but can be cross-channeled. And live chat services are often available. Plus a Facebook page for us to check out….

Right now, I have contacted Sarah Dickman and hope to have some positive results that I can share with you down the road.

**I need to apologise for the quality of the photos I took with my phone. I'm one of those idiots who push the phone when I push the button.....I know....duh!!!

** Another apology is necessary... goodness I'm full of it today!! :-) I left the same blog post up far longer than I like to do, but when a person is on holidays in New Orleans, then San Antonio and followed by a RWA National convention, no matter how sure one is that they'd be able to continue with blog posts, it just didn't happen. So know that the margaritas won out over any sacrifices I had planned LOL.

Why have B&N let us down?

Here are all the wonderful books that make up
Ten Brides for Ten Heroes!!

When you see all ten full-length books spread out like this, it makes much more of an impact. At least it does for me. Ten authors wrote these individual stories, worked hard to entertain the readers and by joining them together, made a wonderful presentation, keeping the price at $.99.
Why then has it sold so terribly on Barnes & Noble? Our numbers have been great on Amazon. We just can’t seem to get the same lift there. If any of you have an answer, please do comment. It’s a mystifying situation for all of us involved. And I'd love to know what you know... or think???

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Theresa Ragan has garnered six Golden Heart nominations in Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart Competition for her work. After writing for twenty years, Theresa decided to self-publish in March, 2011, and has sold over one million books since that time. Theresa writes medieval time travels, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and thrillers under the name T.R. Ragan.

Donna Fasano has sold nearly 4 million books worldwide. One of her proudest moments was seeing her book, Reclaim My Heart, on the USA Today Bestsellers List.

USA and New York Times bestselling author Rebecca York is known for her paranormal romantic suspense. She is a two-time RITA finalist, a winner of two RT Career Achievement Awards, and a Prism winner. She hates working at a desk and takes her laptop around her house, followed by the cats who want to sit on her lap and make it difficult to type. She's currently finishing a novella in her Off World science fiction romance series.

International bestselling author Rita Herron has won numerous awards including a Career Achievement Award from RT, the National Reader's Choice Award for best romantic suspense and the Maggie Achievement of Excellence. She has written over 60 novels and is known for her dark romantic suspense stories as well as her romantic comedies.

Mona Risk recently received an Outstanding Achiever Award at Affaire de Coeur Magazine. From Best Romance Novel of the Year at Predators & Editors Readers Poll, to Best Contemporary Romance of the Year at Reader’s Favorite with two Gold Medals, and EPPIE award finalist, Mona Risk’s name was posted on in the 100 most Popular Authors in Romance list for several months.

Helen Scott Taylor, Helen's first novel, The Magic Knot, won the American Title contest in 2008, was a Golden Heart® finalist, and was chosen as one of Booklist's top ten romances of 2009. Since then, she has published other novels, novellas, and short stories in both the UK and USA.

International Bestselling author, Annie Jones, is best known for her quirky characters who handle life with heart and humor in small town southern settings. Though she has won awards and garnered praise from reviewers her favorite writing encouragement remains the letter from a reader who said simply "I love your books but I'm a fast reader. Please writer faster."

Nationally bestselling author Alicia Street is a Daphne du Maurier Award-winner often writing in collaboration with her husband, Roy. She is known for her memorable characters and fun stories that tug at your heartstrings. She spent many years as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. A compulsive reader of every genre, she also loves watching old black-and-white movies and inventing new recipes for soups.

Bestselling author, Mimi Barbour, is the creator of five popular series – The Vicarage Bench, Angels with Attitudes, Vegas, Elvis and the newest, Undercover FBI. She’s an Indie author whose admiration comes from the hundreds of five-star reviews her twenty-four books have earned over the last few years. Mimi's been known to say "If I can steal my booklover's attention away from their everyday grind, absorb them into a fantasy love story, and make them care about the ending, then I've done my job."

Patrice Wilton is best known for her successful Candy Bar series, and new romantic comedy series, Serendipity Falls. She’s written more than twenty novels, spanning twenty-some-odd years, and has achieved her goal and childhood dreams of being a successful author. She has contest wins and awards to be proud of, but her greatest achievement is a three-book contract for her returning war Hero series to a major publishing house. Patrice’s biggest pleasure is reading her many wonderful reviews and knowing she’s touched her readers deeply, making them laugh and cry.

Digital Book Day - #Free Books for you!!

Partners who don't trust each other...
When attractive Las Vegas detective Aurora Morelli makes a friend, she takes the relationship very seriously…and if anyone hurts that person, they’re going down! While Aurora may be slim and dainty on the outside, she has the heart of a lion, and when angry, the manners of a she-cat. The sick schmuck who dared attack her partner is now her prime target. Nothing or no one will stand in her way—except maybe her new partner who arrives in town seeking vengeance on the same culprit.
Kai Lawson, a young Bruce Willis lookalike, has his sights on the same rapist that his attractive new partner is determined to catch. Only his plans do not include capture. The devil raped his sister and only death will satisfy Kai’s lust for revenge.
Her new partner was a man.
Not just any man. He was the type she used to fall for in her younger years. The cocky dude who knew he was prime. Sexy as all get out, Mr. Hotshot who’d been spoiled by the ladies and loved the attention. Before she could react, Cory appeared in the doorway wearing the look of a boss who wasn’t about to put up with any of her shit. As her mouth opened, his hand went up.
“Not a word, Aurora.”
Her mouth refused to close. Her finger pointed at the sloucher who sat watching this interaction wearing a cheeky grin below his flashy blue eyes. “No way!”
“Not open for discussion. You both have good reasons to want Rhondo as much as I do, and I figure working together, sharing your files, you’ll get him. That’s all I care about.”
She’d never heard Cory use that tone with her before. Filtering the facts through her head faster than most, she knew at once that she didn’t have a hope in hell of losing this purse-carrying cowboy. Before the words ‘then I quit!’ could be uttered, Ham burst in, an unusual excitement billowing around him like an aura of static electricity.
“Hey boss, just got a call. A couple of rookies are shooting it out with a guy who sure sounds like Rhondo and a few of his friends. The young cops flagged his driver for speeding, and instead of pulling over the schmuck took off. They gave chase and ended up in the same con as before. They’re pinned down, trapped in that bloody underground lot.”
Before he’d finished, Aurora had her gun in the holster and her jacket halfway on. Twisted, it gave her trouble until she felt someone undo the sleeve and help her into it. “Thanks.” Grudgingly she remembered her manners.
“Hey, what are partners for?” He waved her to go first and took up the rear.
Cory unblocked the doorway. “I’m stuck here. Have a meeting with the mayor.” Frustration sounded in his voice. “You two go and get that son-of-a-bitch and play nice with each other. You hear?”
“Yes, boss!” In unison the words had more oomph, and as she passed Ham, Aurora caught the silly smirk he didn’t bother to hide.
“Quit grinning like an idiot and grab some of the others. That bastard’s not getting away this time. Not if I can help it.”
“Yes, ma’am.”

In The Ten Brides for Ten Heroes Cookbook, you'll find twenty recipes that go with the Ten Brides for Ten Heroes collection--two favorites provided by each of the authors. All are tied to the stories in the boxed set.
